Useful Resources
- The Academy of Inquiry Based Learning maintains a website containing a lot of information for instructors. They also run summer workshops.
I attended one of these in July 2017 and I found it to be a great
introduction to the use of IBL in math courses. I've been told that the
workshops fill up quickly so get on the mailing list to be notified when
registration opens so that you can register early.
- The Academy's IBL Blog Playlist is a great place to look for answers to questions you may have about IBL.
- The Academy also runs the annual IBL Conference,
which is held at MathFest. This is a great place to make contact with
the IBL community and to hear about the different ways that people are
incorporating IBL into their classes.
- The Journal of Inquiry-Based Learning in Mathematics (JIBLM)
contains classroom-tested notes for IBL math courses. IBL notes tend to
be quite sparse so it can be hard to see how to use them sometimes.
Attending an IBL workshop will give you more insight into how to adapt
them to your needs. Also, you should feel free to contact the author(s)
of the notes; IBLers tend to be very friendly and very opening to
sharing information and advice!
Research Articles
A team of researchers at the University of Colorado at Boulder has
been conducting a series of studies involving the use of inquiry-based
learning in mathematics. They recently studied student outcomes of IBL
math courses in a multi-site study. They have produced a
two-page summary of their study and the key findings, in addition to a
full report. More information about their work can be found
here.
